Onderzoek: With this PhD project, we investigate how technology in the form of animations can support the provision of information to patients with oral cavity cancer in order to facilitate shared decision-making. To this end, we are developing three 3D animations that can be used by head and neck surgeons at the outpatient clinic during the result consultation in which the treatment plan is discussed with the patient. Patients (and loved ones) will be informed through the animations about the advised surgical procedure and the possible (functional) consequences of this treatment. During the project, the animations will be developed, tested, and evaluated through mixed-methods research (i.e., interviews, focus groups, systematic review, observations, and surveys) and collaboration with both end-users (co-creation). The project is a partnership between ASCoR and the Netherlands Cancer Institute-Antoni van Leeuwenhoek. Through this multidisciplinary approach, we hope with this project that we can improve the provision of information and therefore care for patients with oral cavity cancer and their loved ones.
