Gian Hernandez elected Student and Early Career Researcher Representative for ICA – Health Communication Division

Published on October 19, 2022 – ASCoR postdoctoral researcher Gian Hernandez was elected Student and Early Career Researcher Representative for the International Communication Association – Health Communication Division. Dr. Gian Hernandez is researching barriers to access in mental health care among migrants and refugees, as a part of the ‘Mhealth4All project’, funded by the European Commission’s Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund. With the ideals of inclusion and access for all in mind, he will be working closely with the team in the ICA’s Health Communication division to advocate for students and early career researchers in the field.

Gian is particularly interested in discussing notions of academic precarity and what ICA can do to support students and early career researchers in the difficult transition during the beginning phases of their careers. His term will start Monday, 29 May 2023 (the last day of the 73rd annual ICA conference in Toronto, Canada) and will end on the last day of the 2025 conference in Denver, Colorado, USA. He is greatly looking forward to this opportunity and would like to thank the members of the health communication community who voted for him.
