Research: My PhD project focuses on interpreter-mediated communication in general practice. The aim of the project is to investigate the relationship between the antecedents of communication (such as personal characteristics of the interpreter, relationship to the patient and expected interpreter roles) to the actual communicative behavior of the interpreter and communication outcomes (satisfaction and mutual understanding). This research will contribute to a better understanding of interpreter-mediated communication and improve health care delivery to migrant patient with a low language proficiency.
