Abstract: Health-related crises such as the H1N1 pandemic are unforeseen events that are highly challenging for health communicators. In this context, the field of crisis communication analyzes actions with the goal of overcoming the crisis, adequately informing the public and maintaining the reputation of one’s organization. This article describes basic models of crisis communication and empirical results from the domain of health topics in order to derive evidence-based suggestions for authorities and organizations.
