Name: Saar Mollen
PhD: 2013, Maastricht University
MSc: 2007, Radboud University Nijmegen
Interests: My main research interests relate to health behavior and health promotion. More specifically my research focuses on understanding how social influences play a role in health behavior and how these insights can be used in health communication to encourage behavior change. My research has a strong quantitative focus.
Research: After finishing my studies in Social Psychology (research master) at the Radboud University Nijmegen, I started my PhD research at Maastricht University, into social norms and health communication. Together with Gerjo Kok, Rob Ruiter and Rajiv Rimal I investigated how injunctive and descriptive norms can be effectively communicated to encourage health behavior (e.g., food and exercise). In my current position as an Assistant Professor at the department of Communication Science at the University of Amsterdam (UvA) I continue my work into social influence and health communication. I work together with organizations such as VeiligheidNL and the Netherlands Nutrition Centre Foundation (Voedingscentrum). To implement my study findings in practice I provide workshops to health communication professionals.
